The newest Frog position coach comes to Fort Worth from Wyoming
FORT WORTH – After six seasons leading the cornerbacks and co-coordinating special teams at Wyoming, Benny Boyd has been named TCU's cornerbacks coach, the program announced on Friday.
Boyd, a 25-year coaching veteran, is one of a number of additions to head coach Sonny Dykes' 2026 coaching staff.
At Wyoming, Boyd helped the Cowboys led the nation in third down defense in 2024 (25.8 percent) and No. 26 in the nation in turnovers gained in 2023 as part of UW's first nine-win season in nearly 30 years. In 2025, Boyd was a part of a passing defense that ranked No. 14 nationally (175.5 yards per game). The Cowboys ranked No. 13 in the same category in Boyd's second season on staff (2021).
In his first season in Laramie, Boyd helped the Cowboys to a No. 16 overall ranking in total defense. In all, Wyoming posted a top-five passing defense in the Mountain West four of Boyd's six seasons on staff.
Prior to Wyoming, Boyd spent the 2019 leading the cornerbacks and special teams at Eastern Illinois. The Panthers ranked No. 30 that season in total defense (350.6) and No. 40 in pass defense (204.1). Boyd spent four seasons (2015-18) at Central Washington in similar roles as coordinated the defense and special teams at Aurora (Ill.), his alma mater, in 2014. For three seasons (2011-13), he led the secondary and special teams at North Dakota following nine seasons (2002-10) as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Luther College (Iowa).
In 2010, he was a finalist for the AFCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year. He coached four Division III All-Americans and three Aztec Bowl participants (Division III All-Star Game) while at Luther College. A total of 19 of his players earned All-Conference honors during his time at Luther College.
Boyd played football at Aurora from 1996-99. He was a two-time All-Conference selection and held the school single-season record for passes defended. Boyd earned his bachelor's degree in social work from Aurora in 2000 and added a master's degree in social work, also from Aurora, in 2002. He has completed Bill Walsh Fellowships with four NFL teams during his career (Houston, Seattle, Oakland and Pittsburgh). Boyd is a native of Dixon, Illinois.
He and his wife, Andrea, were married in July of 2023.
Staff Additions
Additionally, new members of the coaching staff as assistant position coaches have also been finalized:
Green, a former TCU running back who rushed for 1,272 yards for the Frogs in 2015, was previously on the support staff as Assistant Director of Player Personnel. With the additions, staff adjustments include Shaun Taylor moving from wide receivers to quarterbacks, Julius Lewis moving from cornerbacks to safeties, and Julius Brown remaining with the cornerbacks.
