FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU equestrian squad will compete at the 2009 Varsity Equestrian National Championships April 17-18 in Waco, Texas. This is the third straight year that the Horned Frogs have been invited to the tournament.
The TCU western team enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed behind the top seeded Texas A&M. The Frogs are the defending western national champions and will take on the winner of No. 7 South Carolina and No. 10 South Dakota State.
In the individual bracket of the western division, Carrie von Uhlit and Courtney Chown are both ranked No. 2 in reining and horsemanship, respectively. In the first round of the reining bracket, Von Uhlit faces Tennessee-Martin's Lauren Eichstadt. In horsemanship, Chown is set to compete against Courtney Whitacre of Oklahoma State.
The Frogs' hunt seat team makes its first ever appearance at the National Championships as they enter the tournament as the No. 10 seed. TCU will play No. 7 Fresno State in first round action as it looks for its first victory over the Bulldogs this year. The Bulldogs beat the Frogs at the Willis Invitational and the Best of the West Tournament earlier this season.
