The TCU men's golf team posted the best round of the day at the John Hyat Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club on Tuesday en route to recording an eighth-place showing in its second tournament of the spring campaign.
The Horned Frogs posted a team score of 290 over the final 18 holes of action en route to moving up three positions from 11th to eighth and finishing with a total team score of 909 (302-317-290). LSU claimed the team title with a score of 885 while Arizona State (893), Georgia Southern (895), Georgia State (900) and Tennessee (901) rounded out the top five.

James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas | Zionsville H.S.) and Johan de Beer (Pretoria, South Africa | Pretoria Boys' H.S.) both finished three strokes back of their TCU teammate as the duo notched a 30th-place showing with a score of 229. Sacheck collected a team-best 70 on the final 18 holes while de Beer collected a 73 to round out the tournament.
Alexander Knappe (Brilon, Germany | Berufs H.S.) notched a 44th-place showing with a score of 231 (75-77-79) while Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South H.S.) concluded his tournament tied for 56th overall with a score of 233 (77-81-75).
In addition to the John Hyat Collegiate Invitational, the Frogs claimed The PLAYERS Cup, which was a three-hole challenge the teams competed in Monday after play was completed. Members of each team went across the street to TPC Sawgrass to play the final three holes of the stadium course. By winning The PLAYERS Cup, the Frogs took possession of the cup for the next year.
The Frogs will return to the links on March 22-23 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., to defend their tournament crown.
