
Equestrian Signs Four To National Letters Of Intent

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU equestrian coach Gary Reynolds announced the signing of four newcomers to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.Inking with the equestrian program for the 2010-11 school year were Emily Maloof of Monument, Colo. (Fountain Valley School of Colorado), Taylor Prince of Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde H.S.), Sarah Southworth of Austin, Texas (Westlake H.S.) and Devin Spencer of Evergreen, Colo. (JK Mullen H.S.).
"We are fortunate to get such a talented group of athletes during the early signing period. We are adding some significantly talented Hunt Seat riders to begin to add depth to the roster," said Reynolds. "Taylor Prince is a World Champion in Horsemanship and just looks amazing when she rides, while Devin Spencer will be a great addition to our Reining team."
Maloof comes to TCU after being a member of the 2007 IEA National Championship squad. Maloof, who has qualified for the IEA Nationals as an individual for three-straight years, was recently inducted into the Colorado Sportswomen Hall of Fame. She posted sixth-place finishes in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat at the 2008 IEA Nationals. Maloof has also excelled in the classroom as she is part of the Cum Laude Society, while also being a member of the Hispanic Honors Society at Fountain Valley School of Colorado
Prince will don the Purple and White next fall after garnering 2009 APHA World Champion accolades in three different events. The two-time reserve high-point all-around rider also collected APHA World Championship honors in Trail and Western Riding. On the AQHA level, Prince, who was named reserve high point all-around, was the 2009 Congress 14-18 Novice Youth Champion in Showmanship, while also collecting reserve accolades in Horsemanship.
Southworth, who hails from Austin, bring plenty of success to Fort Worth next fall as she was the 2006 THJA Children's Hunter Reserve Champion. The 2008 zone qualifier recently qualified for the 2009 USEF National Junior Hunter Championship as well as the THJA Junior Equitation finals. Southworth has also excelled in swimming at Westlake High School. The 2009-10 team captain helped the Chaps capture the 2008 UIL State Championship.
Spencer, who qualified for the USEF National Youth Reining Championships as an individual, recently received a bronze medal at the 2009 USEF Youth Reining Championships. Finally, Spencer was named the 2005 Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association year-end champion.
TCU will open the spring season on Jan. 30 against Tennessee-Martin in Mansfield.
