Frogs Open Season with 74-69 Victory over MACU

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore Ronnie Moss (Fort Worth, Texas | Christian Life Academy) scored a career-high 26 points en route to leading the Horned Frogs to a 74-69 victory over Mid-America Christian University in the season opener at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Friday evening.
Moss connected on a career-high 9-of-17 shooting, including five three-pointers, to go along with six assists, five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot in 32 minutes of action. The Fort Worth native scored 15 of his 26 points in the second half of action.
The Frogs' offense started off slow in the contest as Mid-America Christian took its biggest lead of the game at the 7:02 mark in the first half following a three-pointer by Nathan Pratt to give the Evangels a 24-17 lead.
Over the final seven minutes of the first frame, the Frogs would out-score the Evangels by a 21-6 count to take a 38-30 lead heading into the locker room. In the final three minutes, Moss posted eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, to give the Frogs the advantage at intermission.
In the second half of action, the Frogs upped its lead to 19 points at the 9:11 mark at 64-45 following a three-pointer by Moss. The Evangels would not go quietly as Mid-America Christian out-scored the Frogs by a 24-10 margin, but TCU defense produced clutch stops in the final minute to secure the victory.
Senior Zvonko Buljan (Split, Croatia | Vincennes University) collected his first double-double of the season following a 22-point, 16-rebound performance. The TCU forward connected on 8-of-16 from the field go along with two assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action.
Kevin Butler (Duncanville, Texas | Duncanville H.S.) recorded a career-high 11 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, to go along with seven points, three blocked shots and two steals in a career-high 38 minutes of action.
Garlon Green (Missouri City, Texas | Hightower H.S.) posted a nice collegiate debut as the TCU freshman finished with eight points on 3-of-6 shooting to go along with five rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal in 28 minutes of action.
Brandon Williams finished with 18 points while Charlie Shorter added 17 points and six rebounds in 23 minutes of action to lead the Evangels.
The Frogs will be back in action on Monday at the Preseason NIT when TCU takes the court against Cal State Northridge in Tempe, Ariz. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. Central Time.
