ATHENS, GA. - TCU freshman Kayla Duncan and Gaby Mastromarino swept through three doubles matches in their first collegiate appearances as the Frogs took six of nine doubles matches in the first day of the Bulldog Invitational Friday. The action started outside before being moved indoors after rain moved into the area.
"The freshman had a good start to their careers," TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. " Gaby and Kayla are both fundamentally sound and are picking up the college doubles game quickly. It was a good day.""
Duncan and Mastromarino topped pairings from Indiana, Wake Forest and Virginia. All of TCU's other doubles squads competed twice on the first day, each going 1-1. After splitting two of the four matches in the morning session, the Frogs fired back in the afternoon for victories in four of five matches.
We took six out of nine doubles matches today and started the year with solid play," Hammond said. "Across the board, I am very pleased with our focus, attitude and approach."
TCU will return to action Saturday for two sessions of singles competition.
