DALLAS - The No. 36 TCU men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 46 SMU on Wednesday at the SMU Tennis Center in Dallas. The Horned Frogs dropped to 18-7 overall, while the Mustangs improved to 19-7 on the season."SMU played very well today," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "They're a well-coached team and they were well prepared. Today's match gave us a chance to play in this area again before the conference championships, and I'm looking forward to having a better performance next week."
The Frogs dropped decisions at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to begin the match down 1-0. The TCU duo of Emanu Brighiu and Kriegler Brink earned the only win, defeating Oivind Alver and Chris Hooshyar by a score of 8-5 at the No. 2 slot.
TCU senior Cosmin Cotet secured the only win in singles play for the Frogs, routing No. 124 David Kuczer by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Cotet improved to 19-6 at the top position this season, and notched his eighth victory against a ranked opponent this spring.
The match was decided before TCU's Brink and Casey Powers could complete their contests at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
The Frogs wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday, and will return to the courts on April 25 as the top seed in the Mountain West Conference Championships in Fort Worth. TCU will face the winner of the match between No. 4 UNLV and No. 5 BYU in the semifinals.
