FORT WORTH--Adrianne Ross scored a team-high 22 points and Lorie Butler-Rayford added her fourth double-double of the season Sunday to lead TCU past Boise State, 85-56, during second-round action of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.The win advanced TCU (22-11) on to the WNIT's third round, where it will match up with Texas Tech. The Frogs and Red Raiders meet Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas, for a 7 p.m. contest.
Butler-Rayford, who notched her second career 20-point effort by scoring 21 Sunday, helped the Lady Frogs jump out to a 45-22 halftime lead with 17 points and nine rebounds in the first half. The Inglewood, Calif., native shot 7-of-13 from the field for the game while finishing with a game-high 13 boards in addition to five assists and four steals.
Butler-Rayford's 20th point of the night, recorded on a free throw with 1:55 remaining, also made her the 10th member of the Frogs' 1,000-point club. The Inglewood, Calif., native received a standing ovation from the crowd as she was removed from the contest in the closing minute.
While Butler-Rayford dominated in the first half, Ross took the reigns following intermission by totaling 13 of her points in the second period. For the game, the senior guard made 8-of-16 shots from the floor, including going 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line.
Ross' shooting was a drive force behind a TCU 3-point barrage that saw the squad go 10-of-21 from long distance during the game, including 6-for-10 in the second half.
Helen Roden also scored in double figures for the Frogs with 11 points. She added five rebounds, while Moneka Knight dished out a game-high seven assists. Helena Sverrisdottir went for nine points and five boards.
Tasha Harris put together a solid game for the Broncos, scoring a game-high 25 points on a sizzling 11-of-14 shooting. Teammate Ja'Lara Walker grabbed 10 boards for BSU, although the Frogs ultimately won the rebound battle by a 45-35 margin.
TCU took control of the contest early after Boise State went up 7-3 in the first two-plus minutes of the game. Butler-Rayford led the Frogs to 24 of the game's next 29 points for a 15-point lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. The senior forward accounted for 14 points during the stretch, as well as 13 straight points for the Frogs at one point in the period.
A 12-3 run to close out the half put the Frogs up by 23 points at intermission.
TCU owned as large a lead as 30 points midway through the second half before the Broncos scored nine straight points to cut the advantage back to 21, 68-47.
