TCU tops Columbia on Tuesday, 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 28 TCU men's tennis team downed Columbia on Tuesday by a score of 5-2 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. With the win, the Horned Frogs improve to 12-4 this season, while Columbia drops to 5-2 overall."This was a good win for us because Columbia is used to playing indoors," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "They played very tough and are a really good team."
The 45th-ranked TCU duo of Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet led off doubles play by cruising past Justin Chow and Bogdan Borta by a score of 8-3 at the top position. After a TCU loss at the No. 3 slot, Adrian Simon and Emanu Brighiu fought to a 9-8(2) victory over Jonathan Wong and Mark Clemente to capture the doubles point for the Frogs.
TCU secured wins at the top three singles positions to quickly seal the match. Cotet, ranked No. 29 nationally, defeated Clemente at the top spot by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Brighiu, a native of Iasi, Romania, followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Wong at the No. 2 slot to put TCU up 3-0 in the match.
Brink clinched the match for the Frogs with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Borta to push his season record to a perfect 15-0.
Freshman Zach Nichols would go on to earn a 7-6(9), 6-3 victory over Chow at the No. 5 position. With the win, Nichols improved to 14-2 this season.
Tuesday's match wrapped up the home regular season slate, as the Frogs will compete in nine consecutive road contests before hosting the Mountain West Conference Championship. TCU will return to action on Friday at No. 50 Fresno State at 3 p.m. CT.
