Frogs cruise past Virginia on Sunday, 6-1

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 15 TCU women's tennis team routed No. 48 Virginia on Sunday by a score of 6-1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. With the win, the Horned Frogs improve to 9-4 this season, while the Cavaliers fall to 6-6 overall."I'm incredibly happy with the energy and the way the team went about their business today," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "It's been a long stretch of matches with very little rest, and the team has not only survived, but done exceptionally well and beaten some ranked teams. We're looking forward to a couple of days of rest before preparing for Oklahoma on Saturday."
TCU's Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg led off doubles play with an 8-3 victory over Jennifer Stevens and Hampton Williams at the No. 3 position. After a TCU loss at the No. 2 slot, the 14th-ranked Horned Frog duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska answered back with an 8-5 victory over Amanda Rales and Lara Alexander to clinch the doubles point.
With the match tied at 1-1, Sydorska posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Maggie Yahner at the No. 3 position, while senior Kewa Nichols followed with a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Alexander to put TCU up 3-1 in the match.
Sophomore Nina Munch-Soegaard sealed the match for TCU with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 124 Rales at the top singles position. The win was Munch-Soegaard's third over a ranked opponent this season.
Hertzberg, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, posted her ninth victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Williams at the No. 6 position, while fellow freshman Katariina Tuohimaa completed the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory over Lindsey Pereira. The win was Tuohimaa's ninth consecutive and 11th overall this season.
The Frogs will return to action to play host to Oklahoma on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
