The win, which raised the Lady Frogs' season record to 21-10, moved the squad into Friday's 2:30 p.m. PST semifinal contest against San Diego State, which upset No. 3 seed Wyoming Wednesday evening.
Adriane Ross scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Frog offensive effort on a night that marked her 131st career game played, which set a new program record. She made 7-of-8 shots at the free-throw line in addition to reeling in a game-high five steals.
Ross' defensive efforts helped key a TCU pressure defense that forced Air Force into 28 turnovers Wednesday, including 19 in the first half. Twenty-three of the squad's points came off Falcon miscues.
Lorie Butler-Rayford scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, marking the eighth time this season she has totaled at least eight boards. Included among her rebounds were four that came on the offensive end.
Helen Roden reached double figures for the third consecutive game with 11 points after making 6-of-7 free throws. Overall, the Lady Frogs held a 16-free-throw advantage over the Falcons and connected on 20-of-27 attempts during the contest.
Following a slow start to the game for both teams, TCU jumped on top of Air Force with a 15-2 run over a seven and a half-minute period of the first half that gave the squad a 13-point lead. Ross totaled five points during the stretch, while Roden and Danielle Nunn each added four.
Air Force cut the lead to nine points before TCU closed the half on a 7-2 run. Helena Sverrisdottir put the Frogs up 14 at intermission, 36-22, by taking a defensive board coast-to-coast for a layup in the final minute.
TCU led by as many as 20 points in the second half after a pair of Butler-Rayford free throws with 4:44 remaining.
