Postgame Quotes
No. 22/RV TCU 82, No. 3/3 Cal 73
Berkeley, Calif. (Haas Pavilion)
Dec. 7, 2008
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On TCU's defensive gameplan:
"I thought we confused them some. Our gameplan was to switch up defenses and confuse them. Our players really communicated well and made good adjustments."
On answering Cal runs:
"In every timeout we talked about answering them. If we were on a spurt, we talked about pushing it one more time. The second half I thought was kind of a chess match. I thought our players had good recognition (of what Cal was trying to do) in the second half.
"(Emily) Carter hit a big 3 on a good skip pass in from of the bench (with 2:54 remaining) that I thought was particularly big."
On the importance of the game for TCU:
"We talked about yesterday (win over Saint Louis) being a bounce-back game, and this team has bounced back well from two losses. We talked about the opportunity today against another top-5 team, and we had never beaten a top-5 team on the road. This was another challenge we needed to answer."
Sophomore forward Rachel Rentschler
On the team's performance:
"I think it was the whole team that recognized when I had a mismatch. Helena (Sverrisdottir) did a great job of picking and rolling. She recognized the defense. She made great passes through the trap, and they were trapping her the whole night. We all took advantage of that."
On what the win means for the team:
"It's great. It gives us some positive momentum and the chance to go home and rest and get ready Oklahoma State (Dec. 14) and Texas A&M (Dec. 21).
Sophomore guard Helena Sverrisdottir
On the team's performance:
"We were doing everything together. We knew what was happening, and we are always ready to answer what kind of defense they were playing. We played a really good team game tonight."
