STILLWATER, Okla. - Competing in its most competitive field this season, the TCU men and women's cross country teams finished 19th and 12th overall, respectively, at the 72nd annual Cowboy Jamboree held at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course on Saturday."Festus Kigen ran great today, but we ran like it was our first meet of the year. We have to learn how to compete better. It is what it is," said distance coach Shawn Winget.
Junior Festus Kigen paced the TCU men attack, clocking a seasonal and personal-best time of 24:18 to cross the finish-line in sixth-place. Kigen's time is currently the fourth-best time recorded in the Mountain West Conference this fall.
Jacob Womeldorf, a sophomore from Northfield, Minn., followed in 73rd-place, while Jeff Pels placed 92nd overall out of 244 competitors.
Overall, the TCU men finished the meet with 430 points. The Purple and White finished ahead of Kansas State, Saint Louis and UMKC in the final team-standings. Host school and No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State won the men's title with 38 points.
On the women's side, Tanja Ivandic led the Horned Frogs with a seasonal-best time of 22:17. The sophomore, who has now led TCU in seven-consecutive meets, placed 31st overall out of 205 student-athletes. Ivandic's time is currently the fifth-best time in the MWC in 2008.
Junior Dani Selner and Lisa Baity paced the rest of the TCU lineup, finishing 57th and 75th overall with times of 22:51 and 23:19, respectively. Finally, freshman Kelly Dawson, a Keller native, clocked a personal-best time of 23:35 in the 6K race.
The women finished Saturday's meet with 355 points ahead of 13 other teams, including Texas Tech and regionally ranked UT-Arlington and Texas State. No. 24 Northern Arizona captured the event-title with 61 points.
TCU will have a week off before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 18.
