
TCU Equestrian Dominates South Carolina

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU equestrian team (3-2) earned its first-ever victory over South Carolina (2-4) on Sunday upending the Gamecocks 12-7 at Fieldstone Park in Mansfield, Texas.Sunday's match was dedicated to Edie Baker, mother of senior rider Chloe Baker, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. In her honor, TCU Equestrian sported breast cancer ribbons on their uniforms.
In hunt seat, the Horned Frogs were defeated by South Carolina in points (5-4), but took the overall victory with a raw score of 1516-1414.
In equitation on the flat, sophomores Jessica Hagen and Milana Trimino both won their points, with scores of 76 and 87, respectively. Juli Skobel led all scores on the day after tying South Carolina's Carly Babcock, 88-88, on the flat.
Freshman Victoria Lee earned her second win of the season (2-0) after dominating the Gamecocks' Alex Foster, 83-66, in equitation over fences. TCU was led by veteran senior Carrie von Uhlit who went 3-0 on the day while scoring a 79 in equitation over fences. In western, Uhlit scored 73.5 in horsemanship and 77 in reining to earn two more TCU points.
The TCU western team downed South Carolina, 8-2, in the western bracket as sophomore Kelsey Huffman took MVP honors in reining, her second MVP win on the season. Ashton Mickunas captured her second win of this year's campaign after scoring a 77 in reining.
Freshman Courtney Chown won both her points in the western division to help boost the Frogs to victory.
"Our hunt seat team showed well today and they are really starting to gel," head coach Gary Reynolds said. "They are a talented group of young women and stayed tough against a very strong South Carolina hunt seat team."
The Frogs return to action Nov. 15 as they hit the road to play Texas A&M. It will be the third meeting between the two schools as TCU looks for its first-ever win over the Aggies.
