
TCU's doubles teams sweep into Round of 16 Friday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team advanced all four doubles teams into the round of 16 Friday at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
After earning a bye in the first round, the senior duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska made their first appearance of the tournament with a win over Brigette Marcovich and Julie Mazinova from University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 8-4. The nation's ninth-ranked doubles team advances into the round of 16 Saturday.
The sophomore tandem of Idunn Hertzberg and Katariina Tuohimaa topped UTEP's Weronika Bloczynska and Martina Trierweiler, 8-4. The duo moves to 5-2 as a pair this season and will move into the round of 16 Saturday.
The team of Maria Babanova and Nina Munch-Soegaard had to battle for their second win of the weekend, topping Julie Chao and Analy Guzman from Rice, 8-6. TCU will face 18th-ranked Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova from Baylor Saturday.
In the final doubles match of the afternoon, the freshman duo of Kayla Duncan and Gaby Mastromarino went head-to-head with Lamar's couple of Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Mariantonieta Gutierrez, completing the sweep, 9-7.
TCU claims four of the remaining 16 spots in doubles play, and all eight Horned Frogs are currently competing in main draw singles to complete the second day of the tournament.
