No. 24 TCU 32, No. 8 BYU 7
Attendance: 36,180
Team Notes
*With its win over No. 8 BYU, TCU defeated its highest-ranked opponent since a 17-10 victory at No. 5 Oklahoma on Sept. 3, 2005. That was also TCU's previous win over a top-10 team.
*It's the second time in the last four seasons the Horned Frogs have snapped a long winning streak by a team from the state of Utah. BYU entered the game having won 16 in a row, the longest streak in the nation. In 2005 at Amon G. Carter Stadium, TCU snapped an 18-game winning streak by Utah, second-longest at the time in the country.
*TCU's 25-point win marked the largest margin of victory over a top-10 team in school history. The previous best was a 14-0 win over No. 6 Texas in 1946.
*TCU had six sacks after BYU entered the game having allowed only two all season. In their Sept. 27 contest at Oklahoma, the Frogs had four sacks. Sooner quarterbacks have been sacked four times in their other five games. TCU tops the nation with 34 sacks.
*TCU has a record of 7-1 or better after eight games for the fifth time in the last nine seasons. The Frogs have equaled their best start to a campaign since 2004.
*Under eighth-year head coach Gary Patterson, TCU is now 5-5 against ranked teams.
*The Frogs snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursdays. Since 2005, TCU is now 2-5 on Thursdays and 35-4 when playing on any other day of the week.
*TCU sported a different uniform look. Instead of the regular purple jersey and black pants, the Horned Frogs reversed the look with black jerseys and purple pants. It was the first time TCU had that look since 2000. The Frogs wore that combination in their 1998 Sun Bowl win over USC. TCU was in black jerseys for the first time since the 2004 regular-season finale versus Tulane, while purple pants hadn't been worn since the 2005 campaign at SMU.
*TCU won the coin toss for the seventh time in eight games. The Frogs are now 7-0 when winning the toss. Their lone defeat came at Oklahoma after they lost the coin flip.
*For the sixth time this season, TCU opened the game with a lead of at least 14-0.
*Under Patterson, TCU improved to 48-0 when allowing 17 points or less. Overall, the Frogs have won 63 consecutive games when holding the opponent to 17 or fewer points.
*BYU was shut out in the first half for the first time since Sept. 3, 2005 versus Boston College.
*The Frogs improved to 48-6 in their last 54 home games since 1999.
*TCU won for the 27th time in 28 games when holding the edge in time of possession. The Frog offense controlled the ball for 31:23.
*The Frog defense held BYU to a season-low 297 yards of total offense. The Cougars' previous-low total this season was 364 yards Sept. 20 against Wyoming.
*BYU's 23 yards rushing also marked a season worst, breaking the previous low of 77 yards registered Aug. 30 vs. Northern Iowa.
*TCU rushed for 240 yards on the evening, topping BYU's previous high allowed this season of 149 vs. Wyoming (Sept. 20).
Individual Notes
*Defensive end Jerry Hughes recorded four sacks, including three in the first half, to give him a team-high 11 on the season. Hughes' total was only a half-sack shy of the school-record 4.5 held by Vincent Pryor (vs. Texas Tech, 1994) and David Spradlin (vs. Baylor, 1987).
*True freshman Ross Evans had field goals of 21 and 31 yards to give him 10 consecutive made attempts. He is now 11-of-12 on the season.
*Andy Dalton's 25-yard first-quarter touchdown pass to Jimmy Young was his first scoring toss of the season and in his last nine games, dating back to last year's Nov. 9 contest at BYU. It was also Young's first touchdown reception in 2008 and the second of his career. Dalton later added a second TD pass to Walter Bryant late in the second quarter.
*Dalton went 12-for-19 through the air for 170 yards and two touchdowns.
*Joseph Turner's 5-yard third-quarter touchdown carry gave him a rushing score in seven of eight games this season. He has a team-best 10 rushing touchdowns on the year.
*Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley's 16-yard first-quarter scoring run off a direct snap was his third rushing touchdown of the season. He finished the game with a team- and career-high 77 yards rushing on nine carries.
*Nick Sanders had the second two-interception game of his career. He also had two picks at Army in 2006. He is the first Frog to record two interceptions in a game since Rafael Priest against Colorado State last season.
*True freshman wide receiver Antoine Hicks made his first collegiate start.
*John Fonua recorded his second sack of the season in the second quarter. It was the third sack of his career.
*Nose tackle Cody Moore had his career-high fifth sack.
*Stephen Hodge led the Frogs in tackles with a career-high 12 stops. The figure was also a team-high by a Frog in 2008.
*Jason Phillips, who added 10 tackles, reached double figures in stops for the second time this season.
*Steven Coleman notched a career-best three pass breakups, tying Sanders and Hodge for the top game by a Frog this season.
