TCU Completes Weekend With Another Sweep

HONOLULU, Hawaii - TCU's women's tennis team continued its dominance to finish out the 2008 Rainbow Wahine Invitational, sweeping all eight singles matches Saturday. The Horned Frogs won 30 of their 32 matches this weekend and failed to lose a single match in the final two days of the tournament.
"It was a great tournament for the Frogs," head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "We played well, sweeping the last two days and we worked on a lot of things that we talk about in practice."
Senior Macall Harkins got the day off on the right foot, topping Hawaii's 69th-ranked Sophie Kobuch, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Gaby Mastromarino and sophomore Idunn Hertzberg also face members from Hawaii, defeating Natasha Zorec, 7-5, 6-2, and Alyssa Nafarrete, 6-1, 6-2, respectively.
The Horned Frogs' No. 47-ranked Nina Munch-Soegaard took care of business againt UC Santa Barbara's Natalia Lozano, 6-0, 6-3, while sophomore Katariina Tuohimaa finished her weekend with a win over UCSB's Tova Hausman, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.
Senior Anna Sydorska, 95th-ranked in the nation, earned her win over Hawaiian Pacific's Zora Vickova, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Maria Babanova earned her third singles win of the tournament over Asagi Onaga, 6-1, 6-3, while freshman Kayla Duncan completed the weekend for the Frogs on top of UCSB's Sofia Novak, 6-2, 6-3.
After spending this fall in Athens, Ga., Malibu, Calif., Honolulu, Hawaii, TCU will now return home to Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to host 20 teams in the ITA Southwest Regional, Oct. 23-27.
"We are playing with a lot of confidence right now," Hammond said. "Now it's time to come home and continue to work hard leading into our regional."
