Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Sports Review will recap the week of events for the Purple and White and will provide upcoming news and notes for the Frog Nation.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: The Frogs went 2-0 on the week after picking up their first road win of the season against Colorado State. Ryan Wall (Coppell, Texas/Coppell H.S.) hit a game-winning three-pointer with 1.5 seconds to go against New Mexico on Wednesday to give the Frogs a 74-72 victory over the Lobos.
On Saturday, TCU defeated Colorado State, 70-58, to earn its first road win of the season while improving its overall record to 11-6, including 3-1 in Mountain West Conference action. Henry Salter (Gulfport, Miss./Mississippi Gulf Coast College) finished with a team-high 14 points while Jason Ebie (Houston, Texas/Alief Elsik H.S.) added 12 points and Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) notched 10 points against the Rams.
This Week: TCU will return to the court on Saturday when the Frogs square-off against the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Notes: With their victory against Colorado State, TCU has won three consecutive conference games for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign when they were members of Conference USA. The win against the Rams was just the second road conference triumph for the Frogs since joining the Mountain West Conference in 2005-06. The Purple and White defeated the University of New Mexico for the second straight season in Fort Worth.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: TCU improved its overall record to 10-8 and 3-1 in Mountain West Conference action after the Lady Frogs defeated New Mexico and Colorado State this past week. TCU earned its first road triumph of the season after defeating New Mexico on Wednesday by a 57-54 count at The Pit.
The Frogs continued their home dominance this season as the Purple and White handed Colorado State a 70-52 setback at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for their seventh consecutive home victory. Helena Sverrisdottir (Flensborgarskolinn, Iceland) led the Frogs with a career-high 20 points to go along with eight rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
This Week: The Frogs will return to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Saturday when the Purple and White plays host to the University of Utah on Saturday.
Notes: TCU improved its overall record to 5-0 against Colorado State since joining the Mountain West Conference prior to the 2005-06 campaign. The Frogs have triumphed over their opponents by 10 or more points in nine of 10 games this season. Lorie Butler-Rayford moved into third place in the Frogs' al-time record books for rebounds as the TCU senior collected her 684th rebound against the Rams surpassing the mark of Tiffany Evans.
Track and Field
Last Week: The Frogs had a solid first week of the indoor season as the men's and women's indoor track and field program had four athletes reach the NCAA Provisional Mark at the Arkansas Invitational.
Jonathan Jackson (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie H.S.) was selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after the TCU senior captured the title in the triple jump at 51-9.0 - which is the second-best jump in the nation this season.
Virgil Hodge (St. Kitts, Caribbean/Washington Irving H.S.) earned another piece of hardware as the TCU senior was selected as the Mountain West Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. A five-time All-American, Hodge captured the gold medal in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes at the Arkansas Invitational and reached the NCAA Provisional Mark in both events.
This Week: TCU travels to Lubbock on Saturday to compete in the Texas Tech invitational.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The H2O Frogs had a strong outing at Centenary this past weekend as the men's team improved to 6-3 after capturing a 95-88 victory over the Gents while the women upped their record to 5-7 with a 102-73 triumph over the Ladies.
This Week: The men's squad will face SMU at home on Friday, which will be the second time that the Frogs and Mustangs have faced one another. The women's team will welcome New Mexico to the University Recreation Center and will try to make it two in a row after a 132-97 victory over the Lobos last season in Albuquerque, N.M.
Notes: The H2O Frogs set five Centenary pool records during their meet last season with Scott McCracken (Houston, Texas/Tomball H.S.) setting a new record in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 21.07 seconds while also being a part of a relay squad that captured the 200-meter freestyle at the 1:24.56 mark.
Jason Hauck (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie H.S.) grabbed his first event win of the season in the 200-meter butterfly with a mark of 1:55.75 while Jeff Gettel (Plano, Texas/Plano H.S.) notched a mark of 1:51.57 to collect the gold medal in the 200-meter backstroke.
The team of Brittney Martinez (Englewood, Colo./Grandview H.S.), Ellie Bradley (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.), Mychala Lynch (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and Nikki Pappas (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln SE H.S.) recorded a time of 1:51.24 to earn the victory in the 200-medley relay while the team of Martinez, Lynch, Pappas and Meredith Grubb (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron H.S.) posted a time of 1:40.36 for a gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
Rifle
Last Week: The TCU rifle team notched its third victory of the season with a 4,637-4,554 triumph over the University of Mississippi at home on Saturday.
Erin Lorenzen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran H.S.) notched a first-place showing in the air rifle with a score of 584 to go along with a third-place finish in the smallbore with a 575 score. Simone Riford (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Punahou School) earned a pair of silver medals in both the air rifle and smallbore with scores of 582 and 580, respectively.
This Week: The Frogs will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for a contest against the University of Nebraska on Saturday.
