The TCU men's basketball program has notched victories in its last three games and stands at 11-6 - including a 3-1 mark in the Mountain West Conference. The Frogs recently scored a 70-58 victory over Colorado State at Moby Arena on Saturday (Jan. 19) marking the first road victory for the season. For the first time since joining the Mountain West Conference in 2005-2006, the Frogs have won three consecutive conference games.
The Horned Frogs have been one of the most exciting teams in the Mountain West Conference this season as the Purple and White is ranked fourth among all NCAA Division I programs in steals per game and is the third-highest scoring team in the Mountain West Conference. The Frogs will square-off against Utah on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Salt Lake City, Utah, looking for a second consecutive road victory.
Below are some individual highlights for the 2007-08 TCU men's basketball program:
Jason Ebie (Houston, Texas / Alief Elsik High School)
During his second season with the Horned Frogs, Jason Ebie has posted a breakout season as the TCU point guard is currently leading the Mountain West Conference in steals per game (2.25 S-G) and seventh in assists per game (3.44 A-G) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.96:1)... is one of two players in the Mountain West Conference to be ranked in the top-10 in all three statistical categories... recorded two of more steals in 12 of 17 games and has dished out three of more assists in 12 of 17 contests during the 2007-08 campaign...scored a career-high 12 points against Colorado State on Saturday.
Daniel Ford (Aledo, Texas / Aledo High School)
Daniel Ford has appeared in four games during his rookie season with the TCU men's basketball program... scored his first collegiate points against Grambling State with a 1-of-1 performance from the field... averaging 0.5 points per game as a newcomer while connecting on 50.0 percent (1-of-2) of his field goal attempts... seen action against Rice, Grambling State, Texas Southern and Wyoming this season.
Brent Hackett (Fort Worth, Texas / Southwest High School)
In his final campaign with the Horned Frogs, Brent Hackett has been one of the team's top offensive scoring threats and needs 58 points to surpass the 1,000-point tally for his career as he stands at 942... ranked seventh in the Mountain West Conference in three-point field goals made per game (2.06 3FGM-G), eighth in steals per game (1.41 S-G) and 20th in scoring average (11.4 P-G)... ranked first on the Frogs in three-point field goal attempts (116), second in three-point field goals made (35) and third in scoring average (11.4 P-G)... ranked fifth in TCU's all-time record books in career three-point field goal attempts (510) and seventh in three-point field goals made (171)... collected 11 double-digit scoring performances during the 2007-08 campaign.
Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas / North Crowley High School)
Kevin Langford has been one of the top standouts for the Purple and White in his second season with the program... ranked seventh in the Mountain West Conference in free throw percentage (71.4%), eighth in scoring average (14.4 P-G) and 17th in minutes played per game (28.65 MP-G)... selected as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on December 24th after collecting a career-high 31 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and 10-of-15 shooting from the free throw line against Prairie View A&M... selected as the TCU Athlete of the Week on January 22nd after averaging 14.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game... notched 15 straight double-digit scoring performance this season - the league's longest active streak.
Nick Metzger (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan High School)
Nick Metzger has appeared in four games during his sophomore season with the Horned Frogs... averaging 0.3 points and 0.5 rebounds per game during the 2007-08 campaign... collected his first collegiate point and rebound against Grambling State with a one-point, one-board evening... seen action against Rice, Grambling State, Texas Southern and Wyoming.
Keion Mitchem (Rochester, New York / Rochester East High School)
In his second season with the TCU men's basketball program, Keion Mitchem is ranked third on the Frogs in three-point field goals made (15) and three-point field goal attempts (41) while connecting on 36.6 percent (15-of-41) of his three-point field goal tries... ranked eighth on the team in scoring average (4.3 P-G) and has connected on 42.6 percent (26-of-61) of his field goal attempts this season... appeared in all 16 games while averaging 11.5 minutes per evening... scored a season-high nine points on two occasions (Rice / Texas)... finished the game with a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the three-point arc against nationally-ranked Texas... scored five or more points on eight occasions coming off of the bench for the Frogs this season.
Martiese Morones (Lexington, Kentucky / Lexington Catholic High School / Millersburg Military Institute)
Martiese Morones has been a valuable player for the Frogs coming off of the bench as the TCU sophomore... averaging 1.1 points, 0.9 assists, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 steals per game during the 2007-08 campaign... scored a career-high three points on three occasions against Rice, Oklahoma and Jackson State... dished out a career-high three assists against Grambling State and Jackson State... seen action in 13 games this season and played a career-high 15 minutes against Jackson State.
John Ortiz (Cali, Colombia / Liceo Colombia Libra / Colby Community College)
In his first season with the Horned Frogs, John Ortiz has appeared in 16 games - earning a spot in the starting lineup on three occasions... ranked 15th in the Mountain West Conference in rebounds per game (5.4 R-G)... ranked second on the Frogs in free throws made (26), free throw attempts (48) and rebounds per game (5.4 R-G) and third in rebounds (87)... collected nine games of five or more rebounds and eight games of five or more points... notched a season-high 13 points against New Mexico and 11 rebounds against Wyoming... nearly-missed his first career double-double on numerous occasions with a nine-point, nine-rebound performance against Grambling State and a nine-point and seven-board evening against Texas Southern.
Neiman Owens (Channelview, Texas / Channelview High School)
Neiman Owens has been a mainstay in the TCU men's basketball lineup during his four-year career and has appeared in 110 games during his tenure with the Purple and White... played a valuable role for the Horned Frogs coming off of the bench where he is averaging 15.7 minutes per contest... played in 10 or more minutes in 16 of 17 games this season... scored a season-high 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists versus Rice... posted nine games of four or more rebounds this season - including a season-high seven boards against Jackson State... collected six points, six assists and six rebounds in TCU's victory over Grambling State at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Alvardo Parker (South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands / Inter-High School / Frank Phillips Junior College)
During his career with the Horned Frogs, Alvardo Parker has been one of the program's top shot blockers... ranked 17th in the all-time record books for career blocked shots with 82... ranked fourth in the Mountain West Conference in blocked shots per game with a 1.29 average... collected at least one blocked shot in 15 of 17 games en route to leading the Frogs with 22 blocked shots... ranked sixth in the Mountain West Conference in offensive rebounds per game (2.06 R-G) and 18th in rebounds per game (5.1 R-G)... ranked fourth on the team in scoring average (5.6 P-G) and has collected four games of 10 or more points... notched his second career-high double-double against Rice with a 10-point, 11-rebound performance.
Henry Salter (Gulfport, Mississippi / Gulfport High School / Mississippi Gulf Coast College)
Henry Salter is enjoying a standout first season where he has developed himself into one of the best all-around players in the Mountain West Conference... ranked first in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.525) and three-point field goals made per game (3.06 3FGM-G)... fourth in scoring average (15.4 P-G)... seventh in field goal percentage (.485) and ninth in defensive rebounds per game (4.18 R-G)... 14th in rebounds per game (5.5 R-G)... collected a double-digit scoring performance in 16 of 17 games this season with three games of 20 points or more... notched 12 straight double-digit scoring evenings dating back to November 28, 2007... selected as the TCU Student-Athlete of the Week on two occasions (December 11, 2007 / January 8, 2007)...has converted at least four three-pointers in each of his four conference games.
Mike Scott (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania / Franklin Learning Center)
In his first season with the Horned Frogs, Mike Scott has appeared in all 17 games for the Purple and White at the point guard position... ranked second on the Frogs in assists (46) and third in steals (22)... scored a career-high 11 points on two occasions against SMU and Jackson State... posted three or more assists in nine of 17 games and two or more steals in five contests... averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 assists. 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while competing in 15.3 minutes per evening... connected on 41.8 percent (28-of-67) of his field goal attempts and 81.5 percent (22-of-27) of his free throw attempts... connected on 10 straight attempts from the charity stripe.
Luke Tauscher (Fort Worth, Texas / Southwest High School)
In his first season with the TCU men's basketball program, Luke Tauscher has appeared in 14 games coming off the bench in a support role... averaging 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 points, 0.6 blocked shots and 0.4 assists per game during the 2007-08 campaign... scored a career-high seven points on two occasions against Angelo State and Prairie View A&M... notched a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points versus Conference USA-foe Rice... ranked fifth among all freshmen in the Mountain West Conference in rebounding average... ranked third on the Horned Frogs in blocked shots (9).
Ryan Wall (Coppell, Texas / Coppell High School / University of New Mexico)
Ryan Wall has appeared in all 17 games this season averaging 3.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.5 steals per game in 8.3 minutes per contest... scored at least three points in 12 of 14 games this season... ranked third on the Purple and White in three-point field goals made (15) and three-point field goal attempts (44)... connecting on 35.3 percent (18-of-51) of his field goal attempts and 66.7 (8-of-12) of his attempts from the free throw line... notched a season-high nine points on two occasions this season against Oklahoma and Texas Southern... posted a season-high four assists against Prairie View A&M... seen action in at least 10 minutes in only five games this season after coming back from off-season surgery...made game winning three-point shot for 74-72 victory over New Mexico.
