FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs ran their home winning streak to 10 games with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-15, 30-12) conference victory over Air Force Friday night. The win also extends the Frogs current winning streak to five games. Kourtney Edwards paced the Frog attack with 12 kills, while Calli Corley tallied a match-high 14 digs. The Frogs were clicking on all cylinders in game one as they stormed out to an early advantage. The serving of Nirelle Hampton broke a 2-2 tie, aided by four hitting errors by the Falcons and a Lauren Otto kill. The lead continued to grow, reaching eight points, 19-11, on an Edwards blast.
Three straight denials on the outside by Edwards, LeMeita Smith and Loren Barry extended the Frog lead to double-digits, 22-12. Holding a 24-14 lead, Katelyn Blackwood served the Frogs to match point. Kills from Hampton, Edwards and three from Otto spurred the Frogs to the game one victory. A Katie Batchelder service error secured the 30-15 game one victory.
The Frogs reeled off 16 kills in the set and hit .375 as a team, while the Falcons tallied only nine kills and hit -.054.
Game two was a much tighter affair with the score working its way to a 9-9 tie. Edwards broke the deadlock with a loud kill down the middle and the Frogs cruised from there.
Blackwood again proved to be a stalwart behind the service line as the Frogs went on a 7-0 run to open up a 19-11 lead. Hampton was able to find the hot hitters, dishing to Otto and Edwards who dropped in three and two kills, respectively, in that stretch.
Corley took the ball behind the line and kept the momentum going as the Frogs opened up a 24-12 lead. The run was highlighted by a Devon Kirk/Hampton denial on the outside. Barry and Kirk teamed up to stuff a Falcon attack to give the Frogs the 30-15 game two win.
The Frogs racked up 22 kills in the set, led by Edwards' six and Otto's five. Blackwood dug out eight balls, helping to limit the Falcons to just four kills in the set.
The TCU offense kept on rolling in game three as it won 30-12 to earn the sweep. Smith dropped in five of the Frogs 11 kills in the set.
A 5-0 run to start the game got the team off on the right foot and they never looked back. A kill from Irene Hester gave the Frogs a 17-7 advantage and Hampton served the Frogs to a 27-10 lead, helped by back-to-back aces. Edwards' 14th kill of the night ended the match.
The Frogs improve their school-best record to 15-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. They will take a break from conference action with a Tuesday night road match at Texas State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in San Marcos.
