Frogs complete fall season debut

TOLEDO, Ohio--The TCU men's golf team finished ninth to conclude its 2007 fall season opener Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Country Club (par-71, 7,255). The squad compiled a team score of 892 during the two-day tournament.
Florida State won the team title with a 10-over par score of 862, while Florida State's Jonas Blixt and Michigan State's Ryan Brehm shared the individual crown with 3-under scores of 210.
The Horned Frogs entered Tuesday in eighth place, but were unable to make much headway in either the team or individual standings due to a difficult morning at Inverness.
"We seemed to put up a pretty good fight today, but the course played really tough," said TCU Head Coach Bill Montigel. "It was windy, cold and drizzly in the morning, but our guys still played hard. All things considered, I think things went well for our first tournament of the year. We placed ahead of some good teams."
The Frogs had two individuals place among the tournament's top-20 finishers in senior Franklin Corpening and sophomore Travis Woolf. Corpening, who shot a 7-over par 78 on Tuesday, tied for 14th place with an overall score of 219 (6-over), while Woolf fired a 2-over 73 for a total score of 220 (7-over), which was good for a tie for 18th.
"While we head into every tournament looking for the best possible team finish, we like to have our individuals finish high, so that was a positive to see both Franklin and Travis among the top 20," said Montigel.
Junior James Sacheck tied for 36th overall with a 12-over 225 after posting a 78 on Tuesday. Sacheck led all TCU golfers with three birdies during the final round. Junior Robby Ormand came in tied for 55th at 15-over (228) after his 8-over final round of 79. Junior Ryan Ammon concluded the scoring for the Frogs at 245 with Tuesday's score of 82.
The Horned Frogs return to the links next weekend for the Carpet Capital Collegiate at the Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga. Live scoring of the tournament, which will be held Friday through Sunday, will be available on www.Golfstat.com.
