
Townsend named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore swimmer Cheryl Townsend was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. Townsend, who became the first TCU women's swimmer to win an individual championship in the MWC this season, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.94 in finance.
Townsend won the 200-back event at the MWC Championship with the conference's season-best time of 4:24.60. Townsend, a native of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, earned All-MWC honors in the 200-back and 400-IM events.
Townsend won a total of 11 events this season, second only to senior Erica Tate. In the last six meets of the season, Townsend tallied nine victories. Townsend also led the women swimmers in four events this season (500-free, 1650-free, 200-back, 400-IM).
