ATHENS, Ga. - Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska have both earned bids to the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Individual Championships held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., from May 23-28. TCU will be represented in the event for the fourth consecutive year.
The doubles tandem of Cetnik and Sydorska earned an automatic bid out of the Mountain West Conference and were tabbed the tournament's No. 4 seed, which automatically qualified the duo for All-America status. The TCU pair went 10-4 in dual match play this spring, and both have totaled 31 doubles victories overall during the 2006-07 season, which ties for the third most wins in a single season in school history. Cetnik, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, is currently ranked fourth in school history in career doubles victories with 92.
The duo put together a memorable year, highlighted by knocking off the top three ranked tandems in the nation. Cetnik and Sydorska upset the top-ranked duo of Catrina and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame en route to being named the ITA National Indoor Doubles Runners-Up last fall. This spring, the Frog duo defeated VCU's No. 2 ranked duo of Borisova and Yuferova and California's No. 3 ranked tandem of Babos and Fodor. On Feb. 21, Cetnik and Sydorska earned a national ranking of No. 3, which was the highest in TCU women's history.
Cetnik also earned an automatic bid out of the MWC for singles play. Cetnik, the highest ranked player in the conference at No. 57, went 19-7 in dual match play this spring, including a perfect 10-0 MWC mark. Cetnik is currently ninth on TCU's all-time list for career combined victories with 170.
Cetnik will be making her third consecutive appearance in the doubles portion of the NCAA Division I Individual Championships, as the senior competed in Athens in 2005 and Stanford, Calif., last season. Cetnik earned doubles All-America recognition in 2005, advancing to the semifinals with Story Tweedie-Yates.
Singles action will begin on Wednesday at 9 a.m., while the first round of the doubles portion will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The individual brackets will be released on Tuesday.
