
Frogs fourth after day one of MWC Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The TCU men's golf team is in fourth place after the first of three rounds at the Mountain West Conference Championships after shooting an even-par 284 to begin the 54-hole event. The tournament is being played at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort's Catalina Course (par 71, 7,136 yards).
BYU, rated 17th in the nation according to Golfstat, leads the tournament with a 12-under 272. No. 6 UNLV is just three strokes back, followed by 49th-ranked San Diego State (282) and No. 28 TCU (284).
TCU's top three scores were turned in by the three team members with no prior conference tournament experience.
Sophomore Robby Ormand is tied for fourth place individually after a 3-under round of 68. He had five birdies on the day, including three on the back nine. Ormand is three strokes off the pace set by UNLV's Seung-su Han (65).
Freshman Travis Woolf was also in red numbers, as he posted a 1-under 70 to reside in a share of 10th place. Woolf opened with three straight birdies and matched Ormand with a team-high five for the day.
Jesse Speirs had a wild round, as he recorded eagles on Nos. 8 and 10 to get to 4-under before making a 9 on the par-4 11th. After the dust settled, the sophomore sits in a share of 20th place at 1-over (72).
Senior Drew Stoltz (T-25th) scored a 3-over 74, while sophomore Jon McLean (T-33rd) notched a 76 (+5). Both players are ranked among the top 100 golfers individually according to the Golfstat rankings.
TCU, paired with Colorado State and New Mexico, will tee off Friday beginning at 11:20 a.m. (CT). Live scoring of the event will be available on www.Golfstat.com. The final round will be played Saturday morning.
