SAN DIEGO, Calif. - TCU posted 12 shots in the match, including seven in the second half, but dropped a 1-0 overtime match to San Diego State to closeout its regular season on Friday.
In a back-and-fourth match, TCU squandered several chances to find the back of the net, including one late in the overtime period when Lizzy Karoly took a shot from inside the box off an assist by Chelsea White, but had her shot saved by SDSU goalkeeper Aubree Southwick.
Early in the match, senior Angie Nickens looked to put TCU on the board off a corner kick from Michelle Nguyen, but saw her header fail to find the net. Caroline Starns followed with a shot in the 39th minute, but watched as her shot sailed wide.
For the first half, Lesley Parkinson led the Horned Frog attack with two shots, including one on goal.
TCU came out of the half, firing from all angles, but again couldn't beat Aztec goalkeeper Southwick. Early in the second, senior Lauren Pope tried to connect from outside the box, but had her shot saved by Southwick. Parkinson almost broke the draw in the 60th minute, but had her shot sail wide.
Finally, Karoly, an Escondido, Calif., native, tried one last time to secure the TCU win with 13 seconds remaining in regulation off a pass from Jackie Torda, but watched as her shot went wide of the posts.
In the 99th minute of the match, SDSU's Lauren Marquez netted the lone goal of the match off assists from Lisa Nielsen and Alicia Piz to give SDSU the 1-0 conference victory.
With the loss TCU dropped to 8-10-0 on the year and 3-4-0 in conference action, while SDSU improved to 9-7-3 overall.
Overall, TCU held a 7-3 corner kick advantage, including a 5-1 advantage in the second period. On defense, Kelsey Walters had another solid day, stopping seven shots, while Southwick recorded seven saves.
TCU will resume action next week at the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Provo, Utah. The Horned Frogs will find out their opponent on Sunday night.
