MANSFIELD, Texas-TCU (2-6) fell to SMU 6-5 Saturday in Mansfield to complete the fall portion of their schedule. The Frogs fell by one point due to a pregame coach's penalty.
Without the penalty the Frogs would have gone to a tiebreaker after tying the Mustangs 6-6 at the end of competition. Unfortunately the penalty of one point was incurred and thus the Frogs were only given credit for five of their six points.
"I am so proud of these girls for the way they rode today," head coach Gary Reynolds said. "They deserved to win today, and I take full responsibility for the penalty."
One of the bright spots today was the continued performance of senior Kindel Huffman. Huffman collected her team high fifth MVP of the season as she scored an 84 in Equitation on the Flat. With the win Huffman also moved into a tie with Carrie von Uhlit for the team high in wins with 10. In the second event of the day she made her season debut in Equitation over Fences and scored an 82. Huffman has now competed in a team high three different events.
In Equitation over Fences the Frogs were impressive as Tassie Munroe, achieved her highest score of the season in the event. Two weeks ago Munroe earned her only MVP of the season with an 81 in the event against Deleware State.
Jessica Hagen saw her perfect streak in Equitation on the Flat come to an end as she dropped a decision by 1.5 points to fall to 5-1 on the season in the event.
TCU will now have a break from competition, as they have almost three months off before returning to action February 16 in the Best of the West Tournament in Fresno, California. Later in the spring, the Frogs and Mustangs will meet again March 8th in Dallas, as they complete the home and home.
