FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 23 Clemson men's tennis team defeated No. 36 TCU 6-1 on Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win boosts Clemson's record to 2-0, while dropping TCU to 1-1.
"What I want out of the guys is to develop a reputation for competing, and the best thing I heard today was (Clemson head coach) Chuck (Kriese) say that our guys were really fighters," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We have a good group of guys, and we need to stay positive and stay focused."
The men got off on the right foot, as the Frogs won two doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead after dropping the first. The duo of Cosmin Cotet and Kriegler Brink evened the doubles match with an upset of Clement Reix and Ryan Young 8-6 in the No. 1 slot. Chris Biro and Caleb Bulls clinched the point with a defeat of Gera Boryachinskiy and Carlos Alvarez 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
Junior Cosmin Cotet highlighted singles play for the men, taking No. 46 Clement Reix down to the wire as he suffered a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-3 defeat. The other five Frogs fell in straight sets to their Clemson opponents.
The men will return to action on Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m. when they travel to UT-Arlington.
