FORT WORTH, Texas - Gofrogs.com recently sat down with TCU swimmer Christi Cannon. The Baton Rouge, La., native is entering her senior season.
GoFrogs.com: How is team practice going so far, and how have the freshmen been performing?
Christi Cannon: It's good that we're getting a jump on the season. The freshmen have been doing great. It looks like it will be a good class.
GoFrogs: Why did you choose to attend TCU?
Cannon: I came on a recruiting trip and I really liked Richard (Sybesma) and Kristina (Straface). Also, I'm a nursing major and TCU has a top-25 nursing program.
GoFrogs: What do you plan on doing after graduation?
Cannon: I'll move to Hawaii to do nursing when I graduate.
GoFrogs: What is your outlook for the upcoming season?
Cannon: This will be our second year in the Mountain West. Now that we know what the competition is like, we have to step it up. We can compete with anyone in the conference and possibly win the championship, but we have to work hard and come together as a team.
GoFrogs: What's it like swimming for Coach Sybesma?
Cannon: He's probably the most fun coach you could ask for. We train really hard, but there's never a dull moment. He really cares about his swimmers.
GoFrogs: Do you have a nickname on the team?
Cannon: "Cannonball"
GoFrogs: If you could play another sport at TCU, what would it be?
Cannon: I would run cross country.
GoFrogs: What is your favorite movie?
Cannon: Blue Crush
GoFrogs: Who is your favorite recording artist?
Cannon: Garth Brooks
GoFrogs: What do you like to do in your free time outside of swimming?
Cannon: I like to stay active and run. I also like to have fun with my friends and relax whenever I can.
GoFrogs: Who is your most influential role model?
Cannon: My mother.
GoFrogs: Do you have any pre-meet rituals?
Cannon: I warm up until the last second possible.
GoFrogs: What has been your most memorable moment in swimming?
Cannon: When I was a junior in high school I made the national cut at the Janet Evans Invitational in California.
