2006 MWC Football Media Day: Behind-The-Scenes With TCU

With a little over a month to go until the start of the 2006 college football season, TCU head coach Gary Patterson, senior quarterback Jeff Ballard and junior defensive end Tommy Blake jetted off to San Diego for Mountain West Conference Football Media Day festivities early this week. Over 200 members of the local and national media assembled at Coronado Island Marriott Resort to meet with players and coaches to talk about the upcoming college football season.
After arriving late Sunday afternoon, Ballard and Blake met up with football players from the other MWC schools at the hotel and the 18 of them traveled to dinner. Meanwhile, Coach Patterson, who spent the day in meetings, attended dinner on the boardwalk with fellow MWC coaches and their wives.
The three TCU representatives rose early on Monday, July 17, for breakfast and a full day of print, television and radio interviews. From dusk until dawn, Ballard, Blake and Patterson answered question after question about TCU football in individual and group interview sessions. The trio capped the day with a live CSTV interview on a set that overlooked the ocean.

After a welcome reception Monday evening, Ballard and Blake made sure to pencil in some fun time together. The two of them boarded a ferry and boated to PETCO Park to see the Padres take on the Phillies.
On Tuesday, July 18, Coach Patterson got started first with NCAA commercials and interviews for CSTV. Ballard and Blake, decked out in their purple TCU jerseys, followed suit and filmed various PSAs, commercials, interviews and opening acts for CSTV. They danced, they laughed and they struck poses for the cameras because after all, isn't football supposed to be fun?
Gofrogs.com, the official Web site of TCU athletics, had the chance to follow the Horned Frogs at media day in order to provide you - the fans - an inside, raw glimpse about what really goes on at these affairs. On Friday, we'll sit down with Blake for a short question and answer session about his first experience at MWC Football Media Day.
