FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football team will face national champion Texas on Sept. 8, 2007 in Austin. The Horned Frogs and Longhorns currently own the nation's top two winning streaks at 10 and 20 games, respectively.
TCU and Texas will meet on the gridiron for the first time since the dissolution of the Southwest Conference in 1995. It will also mark the 82nd game in a series that began in 1897. The Longhorns won the last three contests after a 23-14 Frog victory in 1992.
One of the more memorable moments in TCU history was a 6-0 win at No. 1 Texas on Nov. 18, 1961. The Frogs' 17-10 victory at No. 5 Oklahoma last season was their first victory over an opponent ranked that high since the decision over the top-ranked Longhorns.
"We're very excited to play the national champions and an opponent with old ties to the Southwest Conference," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "Like the Oklahoma game, this will be a measuring stick for our program as we continue to climb the ladder."
The addition of Texas to the slate gives TCU six Big 12 games over a three-year span. The Frogs were 2-0 versus the Big 12 in 2005, defeating Oklahoma in the season opener and Iowa State in the EV1.net Houston Bowl. TCU faces Baylor and Texas Tech this season. Prior to playing the Longhorns, the Frogs open the 2007 campaign with a Sept. 1 home game versus Baylor.
