
No. 29 TCU men's tennis beats BYU, 6-1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - No. 29 TCU men's tennis improved to 11-8 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play with a 6-1 victory over BYU on Saturday afternoon at the UNM Tennis Center.
The Frogs used wins in two-of-three doubles matches to claim an early 1-0 advantage. Senior Jacopo Tezza and freshman Kriegler Brink grabbed an 8-2 victory at No. 2 over Dominik Kaufhold and Ivan Kokurin. Junior Radu Barbu and sophomore Cosmin Cotet picked up an 8-3 at No. 3 over Christian Hand and Henry Marsh to satisfy the two wins required to claim the doubles point.
96th-ranked Rafael Abreu found himself in a 1-0 deficit after dropping the opening set but rallied to take a 6-7, 7-5 (10-4) victory at No. 1. With the win, Abreu won his third-consecutive match and the fifth of his last six.
Currently holding the No. 40 spot in the ITA singles poll, sophomore Andrei Mlendea recorded his first Mountain West Conference singles victory with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Kaufhold.
Tezza continues to produce solid play as he downed Kokurin 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 to bump his singles record to 15-2.
Cotet grabbed his second victory of the afternoon with a 6-7, 6-0, (10-1) win at No. 4 over Jose Luis Lechuga.
Senior Jordan Freitas etched his name into the win column with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Marsh at No. 6.
The Frogs close out their three-match road trip on Sunday when they take on Air Force. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CST)
