
No. 23 TCU sweeps Abilene Christian, 7-0

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 23 TCU men's tennis team captured a 7-0 victory versus Abilene Christian in the nightcap of a Wednesday doubleheader. Prior to the match, the 2006 senior class of Rafael Abreu, Jordan Freitas, Craig Stopa and Jacopo Tezza were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the Horned Frog tennis program over the past four years.
"These guys have done a lot for TCU," stated head coach Joey Rivé. "I have been really proud of what they have done and they have all had a lot of success here. I have learned a lot from them and they have learned from me. It is really amazing how fast four years can go by. I know that they will all be successful in whatever they pursue."
The 33rd-ranked doubles tandem of Abreu and Freitas recorded the first win of the match with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 over George Carstens and Casper Steenkamp. Tezza and freshman Kriegler Brink clinched the doubles point for the Frogs with an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 over Kevin Beedy and Jason Ray.
Stopa and junior Andrew Ulrich suffered an 8-7(3) setback at No. 3 versus Juan Nunez and Evan Puglia to close out doubles play.
Junior Radu Barbu stretched TCU's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 versus Jasson Ray. Barbu is now 3-1 since returning to the lineup on March 22.
In his first appearance of the season in the singles lineup, Ulrich picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Bryce Hicks.
Freitas clinched the match for the Frogs and his second victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Nunez at No. 4.
Brink added to his match win total with a 6-3, 7-6(2) decision versus Ryan Hudson on court No. 5.
Tezza picked up his 13th win of the season with a 6-2, 7-6(3) triumph over Carstens.
Abreu closed out the TCU sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1.
With the win, TCU improved to 9-6 on the season. The Frogs return to action on Saturday when they take on Rice. Match time is scheduled for noon.
