FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team recorded a 5-2 victory over UT-Arlington Wednesday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Freshman Kriegler Brink recorded a win in singles and doubles play as the Frogs improved to 2-0 on the season.
TCU used a strong effort in doubles to take an early 1-0 match lead. Junior Radu Barbu and sophomore Cosmin Cotet posted an impressive 8-2 victory over Diego Mattar and Alberto Agis at No. 3. The senior tandem of Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza followed with a 8-6 victory at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point.
Brink and senior Jordan Freitas recorded an 8-4 victory at No. 2 to push their doubles record to 2-0 for the season.
Abreu continued his winning ways with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Diego Mattar at No. 2 to move to 1-1 on the season in singles play.
The Frogs moved ahead 3-0 after Brink recorded his first collegiate singles victory. The Gauteng, South Africa, product ousted Javier Herrera 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5.
TCU clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory by Freitas over Ian Vazquez at No. 6.
Tezza also got into the win column with a tough 5-7, 6-4(10-4) victory.
Next up for the Frogs is a Feb. 17 showdown with No. 21 Texas Tech. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
