WACO, Texas - The No. 12 TCU women's tennis team fell in a tight 4-3 match to No. 16 Baylor on Monday.
The Frogs leaped to a 1-0 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. Ranked eighth in the current ITA polls for doubles, the tandem of senior Helena Besovic and freshman Anna Sydorska gave TCU its first win of the day with an 8-5 triumph over Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova.
TCU clinched the doubles point after junior Karine Ionesco and sophomore Andrea Morgado paired for an 8-6 victory over Iva Mihaylova and Zuzana Krchnakova.
Baylor evened the match tally when Krchnakova knocked off TCU sophomore Kewa Nichols 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.
Junior Ana Cetnik helped the Frogs reclaim the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Daniella Covello.
The match saw its second tie when Zrustova posted 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sydorska.
Again, the Frogs responded as the match became a see-saw battle. Senior Gloriann Lopez rebounded after dropping the first set to take a 1-6, 6-2, 6-5 victory over Mihaylova.
Baylor answered once more as No. 16 Cerna defeated No. 31 Besovic 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to knot the match at 3-3.
With the pressure mounting on court No. 1, No. 12 Zemenova was able to upset TCU's Nicole Leimbach, No. 4 in the ITA polls, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the match for Baylor.
TCU returns to action on Sunday when it welcomes Fresno State to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Match time is scheduled for noon.
