
TCU swimming teams gear up for MWC Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be competing in their inaugural Mountain West Conference Championships Wednesday through Saturday at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center in Oklahoma City.
The TCU women finished tied for second in the regular season MWC standings with a 6-2 league record. The women's team placed in the top two in the last two Conference USA Championships and brought home the program's first-ever conference title in 2004. The Horned Frog men placed fourth in the Mountain West with a 1-4 conference mark. The men took top honors at the C-USA Invitational each of the last four years.
On the women's side, Jennifer Antisdale enters the meet with the Mountain West's top time in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:05.11. Teammate Rikki Covey owns the league's second fastest clocking in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.88).
Another Horned Frog standout is Erica Tate, who is ranked third in three events, the 50-yard freestyle (23.53), the 100 free (51.36) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.44). Versatile performer Keleigh Wentworth ranks third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:30.57), fifth in the 200 IM (2:07.96), sixth in the 500 free (5:03.00) and seventh in the 200 fly (2:07.96).
Meanwhile Maribeth Pottenger is highly seeded in both the 100-yard breaststroke (8th, 1:06.03) and the 200 breast (4th, 2:20.88). A trio of TCU swimmers is ranked in the league's top 10 in the 1000 free--Keilah Walker (3rd), Cheryl Townsend (7th) and Sarah Bardwell (10th). Walker and Bardwell are also seeded in the 1650 free, fourth and ninth, respectively.
Other top-10 rankings include: Emily Duerringer in the 200 free (4th), Christi Cannon in the 400 IM (4th), Leann Cathcart in the 50 free (6th), Katie Rosen in the 200 breast (7th), Covey in the 500 free (9th), Karen Sandifer in the 200 free (10th) and Antisdale in the 200 IM (10th). In addition, five-time MWC Diver of the Week Kelly Seely is rated second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Guillermo Ramirez headlines the men's team, as his times in both the 100-yard (49.62) and 200-yard (1:46.91) backstroke events are the best in the conference this year. Teammate Jonathon Berrettini had the third-fastest time in the league in the 100 back with a 50.59, while his 1:50.49 in the 200 back ranks fourth. In addition, Ramirez is ranked 10th in the 100 free and Berrettini is seventh in the 50 free.
Yousif Del Valle sports the third fastest time in the league in the 200 free (1:39.82) and is seeded sixth in the 100 free (45.70). Del Valle (4th) is also one of four Horned Frogs among the top 10 in the 100 fly. He is joined by Jason Hauck (6th), George Gooch (9th) and Teylor Arboleda (10th).
Alejandro Gomez's 9:39.90 in the 1000 free is the eighth best time, while his 1650 free time of 15:56.31 ranks sixth. Allan McCallum (7th) and Aran Bean (8th) are top competitors in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Bean is rated ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.73). Arboleda (4th) and Gooch (7th) are among the elite in the 200 fly.
Kelly McCain and R.J. Hesselberg pose as strong contenders in the diving events. Each earned MWC Diver of the Week honors this season and have scores listed in the league's top five.
