FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU's Erica Tate and Kelly Seely have been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league office has announced. Tate picked up her third weekly honor of the season, while Seely racked up her fifth conference award.
The Horned Frog women's swimming and diving team has now collected eight of the 20 weekly awards (40 percent) issued by the Mountain West this season. After TCU's eight, only Utah (6) has been recognized more than three times.
Tate, a junior from Grapevine, Texas, claimed two individual first-place finishes and one relay top time in Saturday's dual meet win over Missouri State. She posted a season-best time of 23.68 to win the 50-yard freestyle, marking the third-fastest time by a MWC swimmer this year. She also had a season-best 52.06 clocking in the 100-yard freestyle, the sixth-fastest time in the league this year. Her relay split helped TCU, which has a 12-2 overall record, to its fastest in-season 400-yard medley relay time ever (3:55.00).
Seely, a senior from Friendswood, Texas, had two first-place finishes against Missouri State, smashing her school record in the 3-meter diving event in the process. Her 3-meter score of 360.15 was more than 100 points better than the second-place finisher and broke the TCU school mark by nearly 40 points (322.28 achieved earlier this year). It also was the best score in the conference this year. On the 1-meter board, Seely finished with a score of 272.93 en route to a first-place showing.
