FORT WORTH, Texas -- Quarterback Jeff Ballard repeating as the Dan Rogers Most Valuable Player highlighted the honors as the 2006 TCU football team held its awards banquet Saturday night.Ballard became just the fourth player in TCU history, and the first since LaDainian Tomlinson in 1999 and 2000, to twice be selected a team MVP. The voting came from Ballard's teammates.
In addition to Ballard and Tomlinson, past two-time MVPs for the Frogs were wide receiver Mike Renfro (1976-77) and offensive lineman W.C. Nix (1985-86).
Ballard's 61.5 completion percentage in 2006 is on pace to set a single-season record for the Frogs. Last year, his 59.9 mark was just shy of the TCU standard of 60.1 by Tim Schade in 1991. Ballard is the Frogs' career completion percentage leader at 60.9.
A second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection and a two-time league Player of the Week this season, Ballard currently ranks fifth on TCU's career passing list with 3,946 yards. With 54 yards in the Dec. 19 Poinsettia Bowl against Northern Illinois, he would become just the fourth player in TCU history to reach the 4,000 mark.
Ballard, a senior from Friendswood, Texas, is TCU's all-time leader in winning percentage (90.0, 18-2) by a starting quarterback.
TCU safety Marvin White was named the Frogs' Defensive Most Valuable Player. The senior from Port Barre, La., was a first-team All-MWC pick as he tops the Frogs with 79 tackles and four interceptions.
