Frogs ground Falcons with 3-0 sweep

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs rebound from Friday night's defeat with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-14, 30-13) win over Air Force Saturday night at the University Rec Center. The Frogs hit .366 in the match with three Frogs, Emily Allen, Devon Kirk and Anna Vaugh, tallying eight kills apiece. Loren Barry led the squad defensively with 13 digs, while Calli Corley and Nirelle Hampton were the serving stars with four and three aces, respectively.The Frogs opened up a big lead early in game one, setting the tone for the entire match. A Vaughn blast gave the Frogs a 6-1 lead and they cruised from there. Vaughn then rattled off three points one her serve, helped along by kills from Kourtney Edwards and LeMeita Smith and a block by Edwards and Hampton.
The lead continued to grow as the Frogs dominated play. Corley picked up eight straight points on her serve to give the Frogs a commanding 25-12 lead. She dropped in two aces in that span, while Kirk, Allen and Vaughn each tallied two kills. A Vaughn kill gave TCU the 30-15 game one victory.
An outstanding serving game by the Frogs in game two gave them the commanding 2-0 match lead. TCU was able to score lots of points on its serve as they claimed the 30-14 win in game two. Barry's serve gave TCU the early 3-0 lead and another run behind the serve of Corley extended the Frog lead out to 11-3.
Agi Nemeth put the Frogs on her back for four points to help the Frogs push their lead to double-figures at 16-6. Hampton kept things rolling, scoring another four points on her serve, helped along by kills from Allen and Edwards. A Kirk and Vaughn denial on the outside sealed the game two win for the Frogs.
An outstanding hitting performance in game three helped the Frogs seal the deal. They didn't commit any errors en route to 16 kills and a .533 hitting percentage. Lots of points scored on the serve was also another highlight for the squad as they rolled to the 30-13 win.
Smith poured in four of her seven kills in the set, while Vaughn collected three. In her only game of the night, Gabi McHugh made a huge contribution in the game with two kills on only two attempts to go along with a block assist. Mariana Silveira picked up her first career service ace in the set.
The Frogs improved to 17-7 on the season and 5-5 in conference play. They will hit the road for two matches next weekend. A meeting with UNLV in Las Vegas awaits the Frogs Friday night and a Sunday matinee against San Diego State will wrap up the road trip. Friday's match is slated for a 9 p.m. (CST) start time, while Sunday's match is set for a 2 p.m. (CST) start.
