Rifle continues to rewrite the record books

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 30, 2006) - The TCU women's rifle team continued to rewrite the record books in their victory over UTEP and the New Mexico Military Institute last weekend at the UTEP Triangular in El Paso, Texas. Freshman standout Tanya Gorin broke the school record in 60-shot air rifle for the third time this season and the team set new records in both smallbore and air rifle.
With a score of 586, Gorin demolished her own 60-shot air rifle record of 581, which she set in November of last year against Arkansas-Fort Smith. She also finished with a 571 in smallbore. Senior Celeste Green, junior Emily Conway and freshman Kristine Tisinger all added personal-best scores at the weekend competition. Green fired a career-high 577 in air rifle and a 572 in smallbore, while Conway shot a 573 in air rifle and Tisinger scored a 562 in smallbore. Junior Nikki LeCompte rounded out the squad with scores of 561 and 570 in the two events.
Team totals of 2,306 in air rifle and 2,266 in smallbore allowed the unit to surpass the school records of 2,292 and 2,243, respectively. Both standards were set just last week in Akron, Ohio.
TCU's aggregate score of 4,572 allowed the team to claim victory, edging UTEP's total of 4,549. The New Mexico Military Institute placed third with a combined total of 4,091.
The Frogs return to action Friday when they play host to the United States Air Force Academy before traveling to Lexington, Va., to shoot in the NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier Feb. 11-12.
