TCU Rifle falls to Air Force

FORT WORTH, Texas (February 6, 2006) - The TCU women's rifle team dropped a pair of dual meet competitions to Air Force last weekend at the TCU Rifle Range. The Frogs finished behind the Falcons, 4602 to 4540 on Saturday and 4642 to 4546 on Sunday.
In Saturday's match, Tanya Gorin was the team's top shooter in both the 60-shot air rifle and 60-shot smallbore events. The talented freshman notched the fourth first-place finish of her career with a 583 in air rifle. Her score of 575 in smallbore was good enough for third place overall. Former All-American and teammate Celeste Green was close behind in both events, earning runner-up honors in air rifle with a personal-best score of 581 and placing fifth in smallbore with a 571.
Junior Nikki LeCompte added a sixth-place finish in smallbore with a 564 and logged a 563 in air rifle. Freshmen Kristine Tisinger and Aida Garcia rounded out the competition teams for smallbore and air rifle, respectively, posting scores of 548 and 555. Also competing in air rifle for the Frogs on Saturday were Alicia Davis (555), Micaela Mercer (554) and Erin Lemmons (550).
Both Green and Gorin were able to carry their success over to Sunday's match. This time, Green set a new school record in 60-shot smallbore, placing third in the event with a score of 581. The new standard surpasses her old mark of 580, set against San Francisco in Reno, Nev. on October 19, 2005. She also finished fifth in air rifle with a 575. Gorin matched her air rifle score from the previous day with a 583, earning fourth place. Her total of 571 in smallbore was good enough for fifth.
Also competing on the Purple team for TCU were LeCompte, Tisinger and Emily Conway. LeCompte improved on her air rifle score from Saturday, shooting a 568 and posted a 552 in smallbore. With a 554, Tisinger completed the smallbore unit, while Conway logged a 562 to round out the air rifle team.
A number of other Frogs also competed individually in the air rifle competition on Sunday, including Garcia (561), Davis (547), Rebecca Upjohn (541), Pauline Cooper (513), Kara Griffin (511), Caitlin Mencio (502), Sara Shipman (437) and Renee Ducote (417). Leah Neubauer shot individually in smallbore and finished with a 532.
This week, the Frogs have their sights set on the NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier, scheduled for Feb. 11-12 in Lexington, Va. The team will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history.
