
Lance Broadway Named Conference USA Male Athlete Of The Year

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU right-handed pitcher Lance Broadway was named the Conference USA Male Athlete of the Year for his performance this spring. The Horned Frogs took home both the Male and Female Athlete of the Year honors, as women's basketball star Sandora Irvin garnered the Female Athlete of the Year Award. The honor for Broadway comes as a result of a dominating junior campaign that has seen him earn numerous honors, including First-Team All-America honors by multiple publications.
Broadway established school and conference records for victories with a nation-leading 15. The Grand Prairie, Texas native was 15-1 with a 1.62 ERA and struck out 151 batters with just 35 walks in 117 innings pitched. In C-USA play, he was 9-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts.
The TCU ace strung together a pair of impressive streaks without allowing an earned run this season. The first lasted 36.2 innings and spanned seven appearances (six starts, one relief appearance) during which he struck out 52, walked six and allowed just 28 hits. The second streak lasted 25.2 innings and spanned four starts. He fanned 32, walked five and allowed 13 hits before yielding a run. Broadway closed out his season by allowing only two earned runs over his last 43.2 innings pitched while helping TCU set a new school record for victories in a season (41).
He was named First-Team All-America by Louisville Slugger and the NCBWA and Second-Team by Sports Weekly, In addition, Broadway is a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the top collegiate player in the nation. He is also a finalist for the Roger Clemens Award issued to the top collegiate pitcher. He also was a finalist for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy that was awarded on June 17 in Omaha, Neb. Over the course of the season, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year garnered NCBWA Pro-Line National Pitcher of the Week honors twice and the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week award four times.
Broadway became the highest draft pick in TCU baseball history when he was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League Draft on June 7. He signed with the organization on June 13.
