Waco, Texas - Junior RHP Lance Broadway has been named a First Team All-American by Louisville Slugger, it was announced on Thursday. He is one of four athletes from Conference USA to earn all-American status from Louisville Slugger and one of two represented on the first team. He becomes the first Horned Frog to earn first-team all-American honors since Royce Huffman was named first-team all-American in 1999. Broadway, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, is scheduled to take the mound on Friday in the opening game of the NCAA Regional Tournament.
Broadway has been as one of the country's most productive pitchers this spring, tying for the national lead in victories with 14. The 14 victories are a new school record as well as a new record in Conference USA, breaking the old mark of 13 set by numerous pitchers.
Broadway put together a streak of 36 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run earlier in the year and currently owns a 1.67 ERA, a league-best in C-USA. The Grand Prairie, Texas native has fanned a league-best and school record 144 batters this season. He has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week four times this season and has earned Pro-Line Cap National Player of the Week twice.
Joining Broadway on the all-American squad from Conference USA is fellow first-team honoree, LHP Brian Bogusevic of Tulane. Micah Owings of Tulane was named second-team all-American as a utility player, while Southern Miss' Brad Willcutt was a third-team all-American catcher.
