Lance Broadway Named District VII Player of the Year.

Fort Worth, Texas - TCU junior righthander Lance Broadway has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association District VII Player of the Year, the organization announced Friday. The NCBWA awards District Player of the Year in nine districts around the country and District VII covers Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Broadway, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, established new school and conference records for victories with a nation-leading 15. The Grand Prairie, Texas native was 15-1 with a 1.62 ERA and struck out 151 batters with just 35 walks in 117 innings pitched. In C-USA play, he was 9-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts.
The TCU ace amassed two impressive streaks without allowing an earned run this season. The first lasted 36.2 innings and spanned seven appearances (six starts, one relief appearance) during which he struck out 52, walked six and allowed just 28 hits. The second streak lasted 25.2 innings and spanned four starts. He struck out 32, walked five and allowed 13 hits before allowing a run. Broadway closed out his season by allowing only two earned runs in his final 43.2 innings pitched, while helping TCU set a new school record for victories in a season (41).
Broadway will continue his baseball career in the Chicago White Sox organization. The White Sox selected the righthander in the first round (#15 overall) of the June Major League Draft last week.
He is one of four finalists for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy which will be awarded on Friday, June 17 in Omaha, Neb. He is one of three finalists for the Roger Clemens award that will be given out on July 14 in Houston, Texas, and is also a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award. The Howser Trophy and the Wallace Award are given to the top collegiate player in the nation, while the Clemens Award is given to the top collegiate pitcher.
