
Lance Broadway Named C-USA Pitcher of the Year

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Lance Broadway was selected as Conference USA's Pitcher of the Year as voted upon by league coaches, sports information directors and selected media members. Broadway becomes the first Horned Frog since Clayton Jerome earned Pitcher of the Year honors in 2003. Broadway was also one of two Frogs to earn 1st-team All-Conference honors. Shelby Ford was selected as a first-team all-conference infielder, while Chad Huffman earned second-team all-conference honors for the second straight season. A pair of freshman were selected to the 11-member all-Freshman squad with Andrew Walker and Matt McGuirk taking home the honors.
Broadway has been a dominant force in conference play, posting a 9-0 record with a 1.66 ERA in 10 league starts. Overall, he is 13-1, tied for the national lead in victories, while setting a new TCU record and matching the C-USA record for wins in a season. Broadway has shattered the school record for strikeouts with 135 and has walked just 31 batters in 102 innings pitched. He has thrown four complete games and his shutout at No.1 Tulane on May 20 was his third of the year.
A year after being named second-team all-conference, Shelby Ford earned first-team all-conference accolades. Ford led the team with a .370 batting average. He leads the team with three triples and tied for second with 16 doubles. His on-base percentage of .476 was tops in Conference USA this season. He earned Conference USA Player of the Week on February 14.
Chad Huffman put together another strong season, ranking second on the team with a .346 batting average, appearing in all 55 games this season. He leads the team with 46 runs driven in and is tied for the team lead with a career-high 11 home runs. Huffman has been a versatile player for the Frogs this season, seeing action in the outfield, at first base and at second base.
Matt McGuirk earned a spot on the all-freshman squad after hitting .336 in 42 games this season. He is tied for second on the squad with 37 runs driven and has smacked seven home runs. He earned Conference USA Player of the Week on April 18.
Andrew Walker was the second Horned Frog to be named to the all-freshman squad. He is tied for the team lead with 11 home runs this season to go along with a .315 batting average in 42 games played. Walker has played near-perfect defense in his first season behind the plate, committing just two errors in 163 chances.
