FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Mountain West Conference champion TCU football team returned to the practice field this afternoon in preparation for the Dec. 31 EV1.net Houston Bowl. The Horned Frogs will practice again tomorrow at 2:45 p.m.
"It was intense today," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "For a group that had been off for three weeks, you would think they would kind of roll themselves into it, but it was a very physical practice and that's the way the kids approached it. This group wants to play one more game."
Today marked the first of 18 practices for the Frogs before their New Year's Eve date in Houston. TCU will be making its seventh bowl appearance in the last eight seasons.
"This is like two-a-days for us," Patterson said. "We just have to be ready by the 31st of December.
"Right now, it's really as much working with the No. 3 guys as our ones. We won't start on our opponent until probably the fifth or sixth practice. It's about getting ourselves ready."
The TCU defense did not allow a touchdown in its two November games and has surrendered just two touchdowns in the last 14 quarters dating back to Oct. 22 at Air Force.
In 33-6 and 51-3 victories over Colorado State (Nov. 5) and UNLV (Nov. 12), respectively, the Frogs allowed just three field goals, 64 yards rushing and 410 yards of offense. The rushing total came on 55 attempts (1.2 per carry).
