Murry leads TCU to second-straight victory

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Nile Murry scored a season-high 26 points, including 20 in the second half, to lead the TCU men's basketball team to a 70-53 victory over Arkansas Pine-Bluff Sunday night at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.The Horned Frogs, returning to action following an eight-day break for final exams, began a stretch of three home games in five days with their second straight win.
TCU (3-6) hosts Colorado Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday at noon.
TCU led 25-22 at the half before the Golden Lions (3-4) tied the game at 28-28 on consecutive 3-pointers by Martese Coleman, who topped Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 16 points.
The Frogs answered with a 13-2 run, capped by five consecutive points from Murry to lead 41-30 with 13:45 to play. A reverse alley-oop dunk by Murry off a feed from Clarence Masters gave TCU a 38-30 advantage. Murry then hit a 3-pointer on the Frogs' next possession to make it a 41-30 game and force an Arkansas-Pine Bluff timeout with 13:52 remaining.
Murry surpassed his previous season-high of 25 at Syracuse (Dec. 3) when he scored eight straight Frog points in a 1:43 stretch of the season half. He's reached double figures in all nine contests this season.
TCU took its largest lead of the night at 69-48 on an Allen Taylor layup with 1:48 left.
Art Pierce tied a career-high with seven rebounds while his seven points were a season-best and two shy of a career mark. His three steals were also a career-high as he played 26 minutes.
Femi Ibikunle added a season-best nine boards as the Frogs held a 46-28 rebounding edge.
TCU had 25 points off 19 Arkansas-Pine Bluff turnovers.
The Frogs shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) in the second half to finish at 43.9 for the game.
