FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team fought a tough match but fell short against the San Diego State Aztecs (19-30, 26-30, 27-30) Friday night at the University Rec Center. Freshman Pamela Gehrke and junior Skye Tacker combined for 16 of the Frogs 32 digs in the match.
Freshman Nirelle Hampton set the tone early making several key kills and sophomore LeMeita Smith posted three kills. With Tacker in the lineup for the Frogs, Hampton was able to take plenty of swings and free up other players to make plays.
San Diego State's Lindsey Noll started the match 9-of-10 on attacks and finished the match with a 14-1-17 performance (.765).
The Frogs continued to battle hard but were unable to sustain the constant runs made by the Aztecs as Noll, Melanie Greene and Brandie Molnar continued to find the open spots on the court. All three players finished with double-digit kills.
In her first career start as a Horned Frog, Gehrke tallied eight digs and one ace.
Junior Agi Nemeth finished with five kills, five digs, five assists and three assists for her best performance of the season.
With the loss, TCU fell to 15-14 on the season and 3-10 in Mountain West Conference play. The team will return to the court on Saturday for a 4 p.m. showdown with UNLV.
