TCU placekicker Nick Browne has been selected as the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of September 27, the conference office announced today. It's the second straight week in which the Lou Groza Award candidate has earned the award.
Overcoming what could have been a forgettable night after missing field goal attempts from 36 and 25 yards out, Browne regrouped to hit a game-tying 24-yard field goal with 1:07 remaining in regulation to tie the game, then connected on a 33-yard field goal attempt in the first overtime period to lift TCU to a 13-10 victory over Arizona on Saturday.
Browne, a 5-10, 172-pounder from Garland, Texas (Naaman Forest), was also the league's Special Teams Player of the Week following TCU's win over Vanderbilt on September 20 after hitting on all three of his field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder, which matched his career long.
For the season, Browne has hit on seven-of-nine field goal attempts and all 11 of his extra point opportunities. He is averaging 8.0 points per game, second in the league among kickers.
Browne has now been honored as the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week six times during his career. He and the rest of the Horned Frogs will be in action again on Saturday, when they host the Army Black Knights in a 6:05 p.m. contest on W.A. "Monty & Tex" Moncrief Field at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
