STATEMENT FROM TCU ATHLETICS DIRECTOR ERIC HYMAN:
Late Saturday morning I first learned of serious allegations involving Coach Willie Mack Garza and an incident that had taken place earlier that morning. As a result of these allegations, I have suspended Coach Garza with pay pending further development of the facts involving this incident. Coach Patterson and I agree this is the appropriate course of action at this time and that it is in the best interest of the university, the football team and Coach Garza. We are deeply saddened by the events of the weekend and are concerned for all involved. At this point the matter involving Coach Garza is in the hands of the local law enforcement officials.
The actions we have taken today are not intended as a comment on Coach Garza's guilt or innocence, but only as an expression of TCU's ongoing commitment that members of TCU's Athletics Staff must be positive role models for our student-athletes.
