The TCU Horned Frogs will enter the 2003 football season ranked 25th in the country, according to the Associated Press pre-season poll released today. The Frogs received 95 points to rank between Oklahoma State (156) and Florida (79).
It's the second time in the last four years that the Frogs will enter the season ranked among the nation's elite teams, according to the Associated Press. They began the 2000 season as the 20th best team in the land and moved as high as ninth in the country before finishing 21st with a 10-2 record. Prior to 2000, TCU had not been ranked in the pre-season poll since 1960.
The Frogs are one of only two Conference USA schools to receive recognition in the pre-season poll. Southern Miss garnered three points to rank 43rd.
Oklahoma is the top ranked team in the country, according to the poll, with 32 first place votes and 1,573 points. Defending national champion Ohio State is second after receiving 27 first place votes and 1,532 points.
TCU finished the 2002 season ranked 22nd in the country in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and 23rd in the land according to the Associated Press. The Frogs logged a 10-2 campaign, gaining a share of the Conference USA title and were the AXA Liberty Bowl champions after defeating Mountain West champion Colorado State, 17-3.
The Frogs open their 12-game 2003 regular season on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, with a nationally-televised contest at Tulane. ESPN will carry the contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
